Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Wumi Asubiaro Dada, who joined the University of Guelph's Department of Political Science as an Assistant Professor on August 1, 2025!
Wumi completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Kamari Clarke, and defended her doctoral thesis, “Mai Kariya (Female Protectors): The Evolving Role of Women in Conflict in Kaduna State, Nigeria," on September 27, 2024. She was officially conferred the degree at a University of Toronto convocation ceremony on June 6, 2025.
After successfully defending her thesis, Wumi stayed on at CrimSL as a postdoctoral fellow to July 2025.
CrimSL holds a special place in my heart. I grew my first set of grey hair there! Although I am joining a remarkable team at University of Guelph, I will definitely miss the faculty at CrimSL, my dear friends with whom I waded the waters of graduate studies, the numerous corridor chats, the warm smiles and faces, the ever swift support from the admin/staff team, the various speaker series and the receptions.
But.... I am really happy that I am just a train ride away and will definitely visit from time to time. - Wumi Asubiaro Dada
The CrimSL community is proud of Wumi's achievements and we wish her continued success in the future!
