Call for Proposals issued by CrimSL Research Cluster for the Study of Racism and Inequality (CSRI)

The Research Cluster for the Study of Racism and Inequality (CSRI) at the Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies, University of Toronto, calls for proposals for up to $4,000 to support new research or work underway that is concerned with how systemic racism, colonialism, gendered and sexual violence, exclusion, and other forms of structural inequality shape our work. 

CSRI particularly encourages applications for projects supporting Indigenous peoples, women, sexual diversity, disability, Caribbean communities, and the Global South.

The proposal is open to University of Toronto faculty, students, and to external organizations in Canada. All research award recipients will be expected to 1) have a full-time U of T Faculty supervisor or partner for the project, and 2) present their findings the following year as part of the Research Cluster’s Works-in-Progress seminar series.

Application Deadline: March 1, 2024
Notification of Award by March 22, 2024

The overall proposal should be a maximum of five pages and should cover the following two sections:

1.    General Applicant Information (no more than one page):

  • Full legal name, title, department or institution, e-mail address and other contact details
  • U of T applicants: Identify the faculty member, including department/academic institution, who will be the Principal Investigator and/or supervisor of the research 
  • External applicants: Identify your U of T partner (U of T faculty member, or a postdoctoral fellow /graduate student who has a faculty supervisor at U of T)
  • Description of any academic, institutional, or community-based collaborators who will collaborate on a substantial portion of the proposed project, and a brief discussion of the role they will play
  • Project Duration (funding may be awarded for a period of up to five months, between April 1 and August 31, 2024)
  • Other funding applications: List other programs to which you have applied for funding, and whether it was received or if the application is still pending

2.    Project Information (maximum four pages):

  • Project Abstract (1/2 page maximum)
  • Title of Project and Project Proposal (2 pages maximum)
  • Diversity Statement and explanation of how the project is related to the operating principles of the Cluster (1/2 page maximum)
  • Detailed Budget for the Research (up to CDN $4,000) (1 page)

Please submit your proposal to the CSRI Program Administrator at csri@utoronto.ca no later than March 1, 2024, at 5:00 pm ET.
