CRI205H1 Introduction to Criminology - Course Instructor Hiring
Closing Date: Feb. 27, 2026
Course description: An introduction to the study of crime and criminal behaviour. The concept of crime, the process of law formation, and the academic domain of criminology. Theories of crime causation, methodologies used by criminologists, and the complex relationship between crime, the media and modern politics.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in progress with ABD (all-but-dissertation) status conferred in Criminology and Sociolegal Studies.
Preferred Qualifications: Successful candidates should have or be near completion of their Ph.D in Criminology and Sociolegal Studies.
Relevant Criterion: Past teaching experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.
Duties: This course will be delivered online. All normal duties related to the design, administration and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; supervision of teaching assistants; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations; calculation and submission of grades to university officials; holding regular student office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student contact.
Estimated course enrolment: 50 students
Estimated TA support: 90 hours
Dates of Appointment: May 1, 2026 - June 30, 2026
Class Schedule: MO:17:00-20:00; WE: 17:00-20:00 (Online)
Salary: $9442.98 (excludes vacation pay) or $10,553.15 (excludes vacation pay, first Course Instructor Appointment). Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
*Vacation pay is either 4% or 6% for those starting their 6th subsequent appointment.

The institutions established by government to respond to crime and control it; how they operate, and the larger function they serve; including the role of the police, the trial process, courts and juries, sentencing, imprisonment and community corrections.
