Biography

Danielle Van Wagner received her Master of Information degree in archives and records management from the University of Toronto in 2017. She worked at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library from 2017 to 2022, first as an archivist and later as a special collections librarian. From November 2022 to July 2024, she served as the contract librarian for the Criminology and Sociolegal Studies Library (CrimSL), where she provided one-on-one research consultations, delivered in-class instruction, and worked to foster a sense of community within the library space. She also led collection development initiatives, with a focus on acquiring and surfacing rare primary sources with research potential, including archives, grey literature, and the penal press.

In December 2024, Danielle returned to the University of Toronto as Head Librarian of both CrimSL and the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources (CIRHR) Library. As the head librarian of both libraries, she continues to lead collection development, deliver one-on-one research support with students, provide information literacy sessions and tailored workshops, and prepare for the relocation of the CrimSL Library in 2027.

Danielle is an active member of the academic library community at both the institutional and national levels. She serves on various committees and working groups, sits on the editorial board of Criminological Highlights, and is the Vice-President of the Bibliographical Society of Canada. Her research focuses on the penal press in 20th-century Canada and female bookbinding in early 20th-century France.
